I really enjoyed this fast paced story! It had a combination of what I would call our contemporary vampires along with one or two of those scary ones. I enjoyed that the story itself was so modern; with recognizable attributes of modern day thinking on vampires.This was the first book in the Evin Driscol Series and I was really pleased with the quick pace and build up. The author wrapped up book 1 very nicely while leaving enough of a hint at book 2. I know that I'm looking forward to it!
Overall, it was a totally enjoyable read!

I just finished reading the book 5 minutes ago, and I am now anxiously waiting for the next one to come out. I started the book yesterday and finished it today. It was a quick and easy read. Kept me interested the whole time, I couldn't wait to find out what happened, but now an sad that I'm done!
I recommend this book and I hope you enjoy it as much as I have!
The Chosen Historian is not only an extremely creative take on vampires, but a very easy read that will leave you wanting more. Just as I thought everything had been done in the world of writing about vampires, Randi Ertz proves me wrong. It is really interesting to read her take on vampires in today's world, with humans knowing of their existence, but in reality, not knowing the half of it. The supernatural world that Ertz creates is fascinating. Throughout the book, it also touches on Chicago history. It was really cool to read about places I have been, and to learn about events in Chicago's history I have forgotten about. You will become attached to the wonderfully thought out characters and become angry that the next book is coming out in 2011, instead of now. Her main character, Evin Driscol, is a lovable character that you almost forget is a vampire. His struggles with himself, being in between the human and vampire world, makes for a great plot. This book avoids any clichés about what has already been written about for vampires and is very refreshing. Overall, this is a great buy that you will not regret. I will be waiting for the next book to come out, because I can't wait to find out what happens next!
