The World Wrestling Federation was hitting hard times as the 1990s dawned the 80s boom had died down, Hulk Hogan and most of the rest of the 80s roster were on their way out the door, and they were faced with a stiff challenge in the form of WCW and Monday Nitro. So what would they do to bring the company back to their former glory and regain their financial success and social relevance?
The WWF's answer was the creation of the New WWF Generation, a period of time when they were determined to show that their cutting edge product was light years ahead of the wrestlers and presentation of the Hogan Era. It sounded great, the only problem was most of the ideas they came up with for this New WWF Generation stunk, and this book looks at the many, many missteps the WWF stumbled through in the years before the Attitude Era hit.
See the WWF's quest to find the next Hulk Hogan, the parade of silly gimmicks given to practically everyone on the roster, the almost criminal misuse of Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, and the Undertaker, goofy ideas like Billionaire Ted and the fake Razor Ramon & Diesel, and the stunningly lame early personas given to Steve Austin, the Rock, Triple H, and Mick Foley that almost sunk them all before they had a chance to lead the charge in the Attitude Era.
The New WWF Generation The Years WWE Would Like You To Forget eBook Stuart Carapola
A decent little eBook that goes through the lows of the WWF/E in the early 90’s. If you aren’t aware of the history of the company at the time, it’s a good, high level overview. As someone who watched the product back then, I would have liked there to be more substance in the book, going into why Lex Luger didn’t connect with fans, more detail into the silly characters of the time (like The Goon, Xanta Clause, the evil baseball player, etc…), but it doesn’t cover much more than the main event picture. The special features in the back go through some of the most important matches, but honestly, these should have been integrated into the main body of the narrative to gift it a little more heft.
So, if it’s so insubstantial, why a decent 3 star review? Because Stu has a wonderful sarcastic, easy style to the book, making it both fun and funny to read. This could have EASILY been a 5 star book for professional wrestling fans if it had more heft and substance.

The New WWF Generation The Years WWE Would Like You To Forget eBook Stuart Carapola Reviews
Entertaining read
Another great read. I forgot how much fun I had during those days of watching the wwe. Keep it up
Always entertaining, always informative, always Stu. The same great quality you have come to enjoy on the Stu and Pid show.
A short overview of the New Generation era. Good intro for people who are not familiar with the New Generation but the same period has been covered in greater depth elsewhere.
Wading through some very lean years, Stuart Carapola expertly pieces together the driftwood of the early to mid 90's of WWF/E. With razor sharp wit woven into illogical booking, the author creates an enjoyable read that will leave you wanting more.
Very Good Book, those years they want you to forget are happening now!
It's a good read that tells the story that's been told a million times. No new information that you don't already know since you would already be a wrestling fan if you are reading this book. Still enjoyed though and rehashing the memories over again. The writer did a good job describing the events.
