Rabbi And The Sticky End
Rabbi Hawkins is back! This time he’s investigating the bizarre killing of a Sergeant, who had been done in by Gun Tape, the army version of duct tape.
Rabbi has accepted the fact that finishing his university degree is now on the back burner. He’s a soldier now and is very surprised to find that he likes the job. Mind you, it’s not all goofing off, playing the universal army game of ‘hurry up and wait’, as he soon finds out. This time, he’s halfway through his basic training at the MacCammons’ Depot in Camp Gagetown, New Brunswick before the regular routine is disrupted. Back with him are his buddies, Jeff, Bobby, Johnny and Beau. Of course, the more unpleasant aspects of army life, the Corporals, Sergeants and that other annoyance in Rabbi ’s life, Military police Staff Sergeant Pritchard-Ingalls, are all contriving to keep him from poking his nose in where it doesn’t belong.
What does Rabbi think of all this? I’ll let him tell you himself—
“He’s dead!”
“There’s no need to shout,” said Sergeant Boxley.
Which just goes to show you how little he knew of the situation.
Yeah there was. I had just found Sergeant Randall, head completely covered in gun tape. No need to shout?
No eyes, no mouth, no face, and no hair. An olive drab balloon where his head should have been.
Death by gun tape-- Army duct tape. And guess who owned the murder weapon?
Who else, but me, Rabbi Hawkins. What else? Only clown make-up, a body in the showers, a beautiful girl, and me trapped in a bunker with a psychopath armed with grenades, a sub machine gun and bad temper. It’s me against this khaki-clad nightmare and all I’ve got is a knife.
Remember that old saying, Never bring a knife to a gunfight?
It was all I had!

This book had me cracking up more than any book I've read lately. The fresh voice of Mr. Miller is like opening your window to the fragrant night breeze. His Rabbi is a character I'd really like to meet in person. The guy's authentically a smart-ass, lazy as he can get away with and brilliant in his own crafty way. Both books in this series remind me of MASH, one of my favorite sitcoms and Rabbi is the perfect star. In this episode he finds a dead body whose face has been wrapped in duct tape and the roll turns out to be his. He's in real trouble and there are those who love seeing him this way. Between Sergeant Pritchard-Ingalls and Rabbi's sidekicks there's never a dull moment. When he has to protect himself against a madman, his sharp mind is his best weapon.Product details

Well done mystery- familiar cast of characters -honor to the military. Unique murder to solve, believable end to the story
Interesting story of life in an army training camp. Enjoyable well developed characters populate this tale of murder and sleuthing. A fun read.
This is a really good read!! The characters are terrific and the plot is a page turner as you read about the daily life of a soldier in a boot camp setting. I recommend it!!
Outstanding read. Characters are unpredictable and the story moves fast from one step to another.
This is not typically my kind of read, but I'm glad I checked it out. This series is sure to be a hit with all military people out there as well as anyone who likes a mystery.
This was a very strange read. I don't know why it's so compelling to find out how this ends, but you won't want to stop reading until it's over.
Quirky story combining army life in basic training with a murder mystery starring an army agnostic "detective". Its kind of like a mystery embedded in No Time For Sergeants. The Rabbi in this case is not a Jewish Rabbi, so don't assume this is like the Rabbi series of books. If you do read this, keep careful track of the characters because there are lots of similar names and lots of characters and it can be confusing in the first few chapters. Oh yeah, and its the Canadian army. Not really a big difference, eh ?
